Bring It To The Lord
The letter received by the king was a serious warning. The enemy had brought death and destruction to other kings and kingdoms, but now the threat was personal. The Kings of Assyria were now determined to bring war against King Hezekiah and all of Judah. There are a multitude of first responses that the King could have had in reaction to such a serious threat, but this is what he chose to do. He went to the house of the Lord and laid the troubling newsletter before the Lord and began to pray.
Focus Scripture:
“And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it. And Hezekiah went up into the house of the Lord, and spread it before the Lord. And Hezekiah prayed before the Lord.” Isaiah 37:14,15
Each day and week can bring bad news, a threat to our health and well-being, and trouble to our families. We have all received letters, phone calls, or a simple text that can bring us to our knees. Personally, this past week it was the sudden passing of my stepfather who pastored in Oklahoma for over 4 decades. For all of you who have recently lost loved ones to Covid, you know that overwhelming feeling of loss and grief that we have encountered.
So where do we turn and how do we respond in these troublesome times? If we are facing great difficulty and wondering how to react and who to turn to – the answer is still the same. We go to the Rock of our salvation and we lay out our matters before the Lord. There is no better response than to lay every threat, fear, and disturbing letter before our Heavenly Father. Oh what a blessing and an assurance to know that we can bring our burdens to the Lord and leave them there.
“If all you have left is yourself and the God of Heaven, maybe it’s time to get yourself and God together. Encourage yourself in the Lord, for it is the road to success, When it’s just you and God.” T.F. Tenney
