A Living House

“Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He’s doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on. But presently he starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and doesn’t seem to make sense. What on earth is he up to? The explanation is that he is building quite a different house from the one you thought of – throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were going to be made into a decent little cottage, but he is building a palace. He intends to come and live in it himself.” – C.S. Lewis

If you have gone through the process of building a house or a remodel, it can be a frustrating and stressful experience.  Oh the finished product is nice, but the process to complete the project can be overwhelming. The sound of heavy machinery, the dust, the mess, and the occasional damage due to negligence can bring chaos to a homeowner. There are so many things that could go right, but also many that could go wrong. The importance of blueprints and skilled workers who follow the details and the plans is imperative for a finished product, as are the proper materials, style, and colors that you pick out for your new or remodeled house.

And so it is with the one of a kind, classic house – youTo plan and build a life without the Lord is dangerously in vain; however, to include Him is wise and eternally beneficial. Oh yes, there will be change orders that you don’t like, and there will be questions, hurt, and disappointments throughout construction. Colors, rooms, and designs will come that don’t seem to match up with your plans, but please remember that He holds the blueprints of the house.

There will be days that you will think that’s not what I asked for, and maybe this isn’t the house I had picked out. However, we must remember that He intends to come and live in it Himself – this house that represents you and me. This is a house reserved for His spirit to dwell! This house was built on the Lord, by the Lord, and for the Lord.

“What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which you have of God, and you’re not your own? For you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” I Corinthians 6:19,20

Focus Scripture: “Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it. Except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.” Psalm 127:1
